William McCollam, who led the Edison Electric Institute as president from 1978 to 1990, died July 30. He was 91 and natural causes were cited. During his 12 years as head of EEI, McCollam helped shape the organization into the policy powerhouse it is today. One legacy was the hiring of his successor, current President Tom Kuhn, then head of the organization that would later become the Nuclear Energy Institute.
